Emotions- Your Identity vs. A Feeling

Being a Christian for 7 years, I've come to realize that we like to pretend a lot. We pretend as though we don't have feelings and by doing this we grow numb and mask it as hope. Yes, we do hope in the Lord Jesus Christ but pretending we don't have emotions is not what hope is. The Bible declares that weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning- notice that it said that weeping may endure for a time not that weeping may never happen. We find it so difficult to feel but so easy to pretend, why? Feelings are real, if you get a cut there will be blood and if you cry tears will flow so why pretend as though we're not humans with real life experiences? I think that's because we don't know what we'd identify as if we fall into feelings. What do I mean by that? Often times we are told not to say certain things because life and death are in the power of the tongue while that is true and I urge us to be careful with our words we need to learn how to identify an emotion rather than identifying as the emotion. The statement "I am" though so small have great impact and it declares what/who you are whether in a moment or for the rest of your life. Therefore, instead of saying "I am" sad say "I feel" sad or "I am feeling" sad, put this into practice especially when dealing with negative emotions. Don't allow temporary emotions to become your permanent identity and the same goes for your circumstances. Instead of saying that you are a failure say that you have failed and you will do better next time. Feelings and emotions are just what they are, identify them but never identify as them.
