The Further Away You Are, The Less You'll Hear

As a part of my daily routine, I talk to the Lord... a lot. While i'm in the shower, on the road, teaching a class or sitting in a class and yes, He responds. While I was in a taxi coming home and doing some reflection, the Holy Spirit revealed to me that the further away you are from someone is the less you are able to hear them and that too clearly. Then it dawned on me that it is the same way with God, our Father. As Christians, we often times get frustrated that the Lord is not talking to us and don't get me wrong He can choose not to speak in a particular season or moment and that too for your own good. However, where communication is concerned, He speaks and the closer you are to Him is the more you will hear Him, but the farther away you drift from His presence is the less you'll hear Him. Is it because He's stopped speaking to you? Probably not, but it may be because you have chosen to listen to everting and everyone else but him so His voice is drowned out over the noise, and when you really want to hear from Him it gets difficult, why? Well, maybe you forgot what He actually sounds like or you expect to hear Him how you want to- loud, thunderous and like 10 thousand oceans, but remember that He speaks in a small still voice too.
Something that always puzzle me is the fact that we may whine and mope and complain about not hearing from the Father, but the question is, have you opened your Bible recently? He speaks to you through the scriptures as well. Think about it, have you ever been to church or listening to a sermon or podcast and it's like they are repeating the same things that you are going through currently? Coincidence? I think not! The Bible tells us to draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to us, the scriptures also remind us to submit to God resist the devil and he will flee from us.
Let's not be selfish either, meaning sometimes we may only want to hear from God when it's convenient to us and then when He chooses not to speak in those moments, we tend to get flustered and start to question His character. But, I want to encourage us to not confuse the character of God with our own selfish ambitions, he's always there and He always speaks, but only those who are truly inclined to the voice of the good Shepherd will hear Him clearly and loudly because they are always sitting at His feet.
