Thy Will Be Done...

Surrendering has to be one of the hardest things for us to do. Giving up complete control and our desires in exchange for the Father's will. It is easier said than done because truthfully surrendering is far beyond the cliche. It is far beyond declaring "thy will be done." Surrendering is taking control out of your own hands and placing them into the Father's. It is a rather heart breaking act because you know in your heart that you could have done it by your own strength but God saw the destruction that was waiting for you in the end. He saw that if you went through with that marriage that it would have caused you more heartache than you would have ever known. He saw that if you went one year early instead of three years later that he would have lost you. He saw that if you had signed that million dollars contract that you would have went bankrupt within months. His word declares that his ways are above our ways and his thoughts are above our thoughts so that stands to reason that the God who created you and me knows what is best. We are reminded in Jeremiah 29:11 that he knows the plans that he has for us, plans to prosper us and not to harm us therefore, we must delight in his 'NO' or his 'not yet'. Isaiah 60:22 tells us that when the time is right he will make it happen. Whatever "IT" is, he will definitely do the exceeding abundantly concerning you. I can imagine how Abraham felt when he had to wait so many years for the promise of a son or even to find out that Ishmael was not the promised child because Abraham didn't understand the physical aspect of God's plan and he didn't have to. Surrendering won't look like a willing show of us saying "Yes Lord!" but it looks like us crying, mourning, grieving that relationship that we'd hope would lead to marriage. Surrendering may look like us going back to apologize to the person we've wronged when we were upset. Surrendering most definitely looks like the Saviour's sweat turning into blood in the garden of Gethsemane. I leave you with this thought to ponder: what am I holding onto that the Father wants me to surrender?
